Cut your Electricity Bill with Ecoteks Standby Saver
Save £43 per year with this Masterful piece of kit
Entering BBC 2's Dragon's Den is usually met with contempt and ridicule for yet another harebrained idea. However, when the 'Dragons' saw the standby saver they instantly recognised it's potential to save people money and reduce their carbon footprint.
The standby saver is possibly one of the most memorable inventions taken in to the den. As with most great ideas, it's actually very simple; a gang plug that takes all of your devices off of standby mode by cutting the power to them. The clever part comes with the additional features and the way the device works.
Obviously, cutting the power to everything isn't always going to be suitable, your Sky+ won't record those all important episodes of your favourite show if it's switched off. But don't worry that's been covered by the addition of switches on two of the plug sockets that allow you to maintain power to the devices plugged in to them, or alternatively - if you're happy for everything to go off - these sockets can be put in to 'eco mode', meaning you can switch off up to 6 devices at the click of the remote control.
You're probably wondering by now how the standby saver works. Basically you plug all the devices you want to take off of standby, For example TV, Surround Sound, DVD Player etc in to the Standby Saver, you then set which button on your remote you want to use to switch everything on and off (usually you would attach this to the power button on your TV remote) as outlined in the instructions. Once you've set the plug up, a little Infrared receiver picks up the signal from your remote and will automatically turn everything on or off when it detects the assigned button.
Today the UK's running costs for standby power are estimated to be over £572 million per year and produces 3.1 million tonnes of Co2 emissions. The Standby Saver is estimated to save the user an average of £43 per year, paying for itself within the first 6 months.
